About McCue: Luxury Fit-Out & Bespoke Joinery Since 1954

McCue is a family-owned fit-out contractor and bespoke joinery manufacturer, founded in east Belfast in 1954 and now based in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. We create interiors for luxury hotels, restaurants and retail brands across the UK, Ireland and Europe, from Claridge's and Raffles at The OWO to Sephora's first store on the island of Ireland.

Our story

  • 1954: James F McCue founds the company in east Belfast, making packing cases for the linen industry.

  • 1961: Incorporated as James F McCue Ltd.

  • 2010: Named Store Fit Company of the Year by Retail Week, and wins the National Association of Shopfitters' Shopfitting Excellence and Design Partnership awards.

  • 2015: Wins UK Retail Interior of the Year and Non-Food Design of the Year at the Retail Week Interiors Awards for the Lush flagship on Oxford Street, London.

  • 2016: Awarded Gold Standard in the Deloitte Best Managed Companies programme after four consecutive years.

  • 2024: Celebrates 70 years in business.

  • 2026: Delivers Sephora's first store on the island of Ireland and the Titanic Suite at Titanic Belfast, and is shortlisted in four categories at the Irish Fit Out Awards, including Fit Out Contractor of the Year.

Clarity Backed by Expertise

  • Every project is run by a team that covers design, contracts, production and safety. Our leadership includes a Design Manager, a Contracts Manager, a Production Manager and an HSEQ Manager, so the people planning the work are the same people accountable for delivering it. Design, making and installation are coordinated in-house, which keeps the programme and the quality under one control.

  • Yes. Many of our hotel and retail projects are carried out while the building stays open to guests or customers. We plan the works around trading hours and the building’s operation, and we keep the site separated and safe while the work continues.

  • Our joinery is made in our own 5,500 m² workshop in Carrickfergus by a team of around 130 people. Panelling, counters, bars and bespoke furniture are built from FSC-certified timber, and we train apprentices every year, so the skills behind the work are developed in-house as well as used on site.

  • We are certified to ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.
