EPR Studios
McCue was appointed by EPR Architects to carry out a comprehensive renovation of their new London studio, All Saints. The historic building was originally a nineteenth-century orphanage later converted into a hospital and then an office for the Imperial War Museum. The project required a sensitive approach that balanced its rich heritage with modern functionality.
EPR Architects led the design, while McCue executed the strip-out, construction of an external extension, and internal fit-out.
A key element of EPR’s vision was to create visual and physical connectivity within the building, achieved through a new external extension and open-plan spaces. The project preserved and celebrated original features like the cantilevered stone staircase, brickwork and mosaic flooring. Bespoke hand-glazed tiles were made by ceramic artist Kate Malone and complemented the retained craftsmanship.
McCue’s team crafted bespoke elements such as kitchenettes, desks, wall panels, and TV walls using FSC-approved timber, reflected EPR’s sustainable values. Sustainability was further emphasised through a BREEAM assessment, where the project achieved an ‘excellent’ rating with a score of 78.9%. McCue utilised Sustain IQ to monitor and reduce environmental impact, diverting 100% of waste from landfills.
The All Saints renovation beautifully marries historical preservation with contemporary design, setting a new standard for sustainable and functional workspaces.
