When did you begin your apprenticeship with McCue?

I began my apprenticeship with McCue on 18th July 2022.

How did you secure your apprenticeship with McCue?

I applied for my apprenticeship in May through Northern Regional College (NRC) and following an interview with the HR and Production Managers at McCue, I was given the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship with the company.

What has been your experience to date?

My apprenticeship has been a learning curve, but since I started with the company, I have learnt a lot of new skills and gained first-hand experience of how to work successfully in a team and provide world-class fit outs.

What does a typical day involve?

My day starts at 8.00 am and finishes at 5.00pm, during which time I assist my mentor Warren with the jobs he has assigned to me. These could include edging various components of the job, assembling units, sanding and laminating. It varies depending on the project we are working on.

What is the best thing about an apprenticeship with McCue?

The best thing about an apprenticeship with McCue is the team, which is always happy to lend a helping hand and offer advice when I need or ask for it.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship with McCue?

Definitely! An apprenticeship with McCue offers a lot of first-hand experience, with the company taking the time to reward hard work.

How will your apprenticeship benefit you in your future career?

My apprenticeship will benefit me as it is giving me the skills I need to craft a successful joinery career, and it is providing me with the experience of producing high quality work for prestigious clients.

Where would you like to be in five years’ time?

I hope to have completed my apprenticeship with McCue and progressed to the next stage in my career with the company.

What made you apply for McCue for your apprenticeship?

I had received feedback from a friend who works at the company and he advised me to apply for the apprenticeship, saying that it was a great opportunity to kick start my career by learning a craft and earning at the same time.

What was your first impression of McCue?

I was very impressed by the high-quality work that is carried out by the company, and also the skills of the people and knowledge of those who are employed at the company.

What has been your biggest achievement since starting your apprenticeship?

When I was selected for NRC Skill Build, which is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for young students and apprentices.

What has been your biggest challenge since starting your apprenticeship?

Getting used to a new work environment and working as part of a team, which I was not used to before starting my apprenticeship.
